The essential functions of the job include; monitoring, tracking and reporting on search metrics. Providing support for the general marketing team, interacting with copywriters and presenting results.

Depending on the role you are applying for you may need to do quite a lot of research prior to your interview. Often interviewers may expect you to present keyword research, backlink reports, competitor analysis and strategy ideas. You will also be expected to demonstrate your knowledge of the latest SEO trends and tools.

Qualifications that you will need in order to work in SEO often vary depending on the type of role. Many SEO workers possess degrees in marketing or business but this is not essential. Having previous marketing experience is often important. You will need to be self-motivated and have a good eye for detail.

Excellent communication skills are necessary for all SEO workers as they will need to be capable of presenting their results to management on a regular basis. Working in an SEO role is often likened to 'plate spinning' as in order for a strategy to work you will need to simultaneously carry out a number of important tasks.

It is obviously essential that anyone who is considering moving into SEO should be proficient in Microsoft Word and likewise programmes.
